IT WAS only in March this year that Porsche introduced its second all-electric vehicle, the Taycan Cross Turismo, in a world premiere. And now, just seven months down the road, Sime Darby Auto Performance is pushing electric mobility forward in Malaysia with the local launch of this Taycan Cross Turismo.
The first Cross Utility Vehicle (CUV) from Porsche, the Taycan Cross Turismo is seen as a versatile and fully electric companion for everyday life as well as travel and leisure adventures with its robust and sporty design. It features what is described as an innovative 800-volt technology for fast charging and convincing range to complement the first Taycan model, an all-electric sports sedan. Adding positively to that spaciousness image is the large tailgate that allows a generous load volume of more than 1200 litres when the rear seatrests are folded down
The new high-tech chassis features an all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension that should ensure uncompromising dynamics, on and off-road, fully expected of a Porsche. Compared to the sports sedan, the Cross Turismo is a taller vehicle that boasts 47mm more headroom for rear-seat passengers. Air suspension and Performance Battery Plus with a total capacity of 93.4 kWh are fitted as standard across the Taycan Cross Turismo model range to maintain its premium standards.
The adaptive air suspension provides 20mm higher ground clearance compared to the Taycan saloon. With the optional Offroad Design package, ground clearance could be increased further by up to 30mm. What this means is that the Cross Turismo could be driven on challenging off-road terrain, especially with the new ‘Gravel; mode that is exclusive to the Cross Turismo. This new feature manages torque distribution through traction-optimised shifting and other chassis settings, increasing the ready adaptability of the Cross Turismo for poor-quality roads.
Other off-road design elements include wheel arch trims, ‘unique’ front and rear lower aprons and side sills. As part of the optional Offroad Design package, the Cross Turismo has special flaps at the corners of the front and rear bumpers and at the ends of the sills. These are said to make for a striking exterior as well as provide protection from stone impacts.
The model range available in Malaysia comprises the following: Taycan 4 Cross Turismo that starts from RM645,209 with SST exemption; Taycan 4S Cross Turismo from RM728,727 and Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo that could be yours from RM968,928.
A look into the power and performance details reveal that the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo has the equivalent of 280kW (380PS) and overboost power for Launch Control 350kW (476PS). 0-100km/h acceleration is achieved in a respectable 5.1 seconds, top speed is 220km/h and the range (NEDC) is given as a practical 437km.
The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo has more with 360kW (490PS) and overboost power with Launch Control at 420kW (571PS). That means quicker acceleration in 0-100km/h runs in 4.1 seconds, a top speed of 240km/h and equally good range (NEDC) of 436km.
Holding flagship role is the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo bubbling with 460kW (625PS) and, overboost power with Launch Control of 500kW (680.PS). Naturally, it is fastest off the block with 0-100km/h acceleration in 3.3 seconds, 250km/h top speed and slightly lower range (NEDC) of 425km.
